5 Day Nashville Itinerary: Travel Tips & Resources
If you want to plan an unforgettable Nashville adventure, I got you covered in more ways than one! Firstly, importantly, don’t forget to purchase travel insurance to cover the cost of your trip! Most vacations go off without a hitch, but it’s so important to be prepared for worst case scenarios. My favorite companies to use include World Nomads and Safety Wing. Both offer an array of plan options to fit every travelers needs at great prices.
Secondly, make sure you find the best deals on flights, hotels, and rental cars.
I always recommend booking flights at least four months in advance (sometimes six if you are traveling during peak tourist months). I rotate between using Expedia, Skyscanner, and WayAway depending on which one has the best deals for my destination.
For great hotel deals, start checking prices a few months in advance on sites like Booking.com and Hotels.com. Lately, Hotels.com has been offering better last minute deals, while Booking.com has deals if you plan on making a reservation in advance.
If you plan to stick to exploring downtown Nashville and the nearby suburbs, you can likely get around just fine using Uber. However, if you plan to explore smaller cities and towns more than an hour away, it’s best to reserve a rental car a couple of months in advance. I recommend using Booking.com (this is what I use 90 percent of the time) or Expedia.

What to Pack for Nashville, Tennessee
It’s true that Music City has a pretty laid-back dress code. In fact, it’s a unique blend of Americana, hipster, and cowgirl vibes all in one. So, don’t stress too much about your outfits — just make sure you bring these essentials:
- Cowgirl boots: Even though cowgirl boots are a sure sign that you’re a tourist in Nashville (especially the white cowgirl boots), I personally think they are still so fun to wear. A good pair of cowgirl boots really amplifies the “down-south” atmosphere, especially while exploring honky tonks and live music venues. I own this pair (and recommend this pair of half-calf white boots, if you must!)
- A light jacket: Perfect for cooler evenings, light denim or flannel jackets add a touch of style without screaming “tourist.” Avoid wearing too many obnoxious rhinestones for a more local look.
- Sundresses: Lightweight and breezy, perfect for those hot summer days spent wandering through East Nashville’s coffee shops or enjoying a walking tour. Pair this flowy sundress with cowgirl boots to create an ideal Music City look. Check out some of my other favorite sundresses at my Music City storefront!
- Western hat: Stylish and practical, hats shields you from the sun (and look super cute while strutting down Broadway). You can even purchase a custom made one in Nashville for a fun souvenir! This hat and this hat are my absolute favorites since they pair well with so many outfits!
- Casual rompers: They are easy to dress up or down, making cute casual rompers the perfect outfit for a self-guided tour during the day or a live performance at night. Plus, they are super comfy, which is always a win in my book!

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’ve made it this far in my detailed Nashville itinerary, now it’s time to address common questions to ensure your Music City escapade unfolds seamlessly and memorably!
How many days do you need to see Nashville, TN?
To fully experience Nashville, TN, allocate 3-5 days. This will allow you to explore the entertainment scene, savor local cuisine, and visit cultural attractions at a leisurely pace. If you want to see everything this vibrant city has to offer, 5 days will certainly allow enough time.
What are the best months to visit Nashville?
The ideal months to visit Nashville are early spring (March-April) and mid-late fall (October-November). These months offer mild weather for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Though Nashville has pleasant weather year-round, occasional tornadoes and severe storms with flooding can occur. It’s best to monitor the forecast leading up to your visit for a safe and enjoyable trip.
Is it better to stay in downtown Nashville or Music Row?
For most visitors, staying in downtown Nashville offers the ideal balance. It’s close enough to walk to Music Row’s action while providing a quieter escape from the crowds. Located about 3-4 blocks from Music Row, downtown accommodations are preferable, especially during busy weekends. At many downtown hotels, parking is also included which is helpful especially during peak tourist seasons. However, to find better hotel deals, consider staying a few miles outside of the city center, or out by the airport.

Nashville’s downtown area is highly walkable! The downtown area features numerous attractions, shops, bars, and restaurants within easy reach. However, for destinations beyond downtown (Gaylord Hotel, Opry Mills Mall, or the Grand Ole Opry), use alternative transportation options. Taking an Uber or using a rental car are necessary due to their distance from the city center.
